Yeah I use google chrome all the time and I’ve never run in to this problem with ff7. However I HAVE run into this problem with Starfleet Klingon Academy. This is the weird world of shared user ram space. One of the reasons why I love windows… *sigh*

The only two things I can suggest is to make sure the cd drive letter is the same as when you installed the game, and the second is to make sure you’re using disk 1, the installation disk is not ever used again after installing the game (think of it as disk 0). If that doesn’t help you I’m afraid I don’t know enough about the game’s glitchy ass code to be able to help you with disc detection. There was no DRM used in this game so any cd emulator should work.

I have issues. I cannot run FF7. I completely followed your steps until the last step well not really the last step. okay, the ali driver is a success but I still cannot run FF7. when i clicked ff7, there is an error screen. It said Please insert FF7 DISK 1,2,3,4 and try again” . Ive already mounted Disk 1 into my driver. Ive tried many ways but it still has the same messeage. I am using Window 7. Can someone plz explain the problem. Thank you

WOW omg that ONE little blurb about closing Google Chrome made ALL the difference, I think its worth adding because I couldn’t get the CD to even start installing the game at all no matter what I did. The setup.exe and FF7inst application would not respond until Chrome closed, thank you!!!

no idea if this guy will see this, but you need to unmount the installation disk and mount disk 1 (labeled disk 2 probably) and the game should run fine.

haha that is a much simpler fix. i only posted the safe mode thing because i couldn’t figure out what it was so i just rebooted into safe mode.

I have seen this as well, but I was able to get around it by closing google chrome. I have no Idea why this worked for me, but both solutions point to some program running into the background conflicting with older installers.

hi, thank you for the excellent guide.

i’d just like to add that a lot of people (including me) have had the installation problem where it will not install at all after clicking “Install” from the setup menu. it just crashes to the desktop. for anyone with this problem, run your computer in safe mode (hit f8 when it starts) and install ff7 from there.

i rolled my custom driver back to 7.8b and it works now, i find that odd though since i’m using an Nvidia GT 240 with the updated driver. i would like to use the updated custom drivers though so if you have any ideas on fixes please tell. thank you
